United Way of Garland County is committed to creating long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of problems throughout Garland County in the following areas: 
 
 
Health

United Way addresses pressing health and healthcare issues facing communities across the country.  Community by community, United Ways and their partners target childhood obesity, health insurance coverage, healthcare quality, childhood immunizations, substance abuse, family violence, oral health or other healthcare concerns voiced by their community.  In Garland County, United Way is addressing the following:
 
Individuals have access to quality health/dental care
    Healthy Lifestyles Program - Charitable Christian Medical Clinic
    Drug Assistance Program - Charitable Christian Medical Clinic
    Disaster Planning and Community Preparedness - Caddo Area Chapter, American Red Cross
Seniors and individuals with disabilities maintain a good quality of life

Education

Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success.  It's essential to getting and keeping a good job with a livable wage and health benefits.  And it's fundamental to a community's economic prosperity: a well-educated workforce attracts world-class jobs.  In Garland County, United Way is addressing the following:

    Adult Development Program - Abilities Unlimited

    Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Venturing Program & Learning for Life - Ouachita Area Boy Scout Council

    4-H County O'Rama - Garland County 4-H

    Tutoring Programs - Literacy Council of Garland County

Children and youth achieve grade level performace throughout their school years

    Project Learn - Hot Springs Boys and Girls Club

    Community Learning Center - Hot Springs Family YMCA

    Mentoring Program - Men Mentoring Young Minorities

    Council for Boys and Girls Circle - Ouachita Children's Center

Safe, learning environment beyond the normal school day for at-risk children K-12

Income Stability

As many as one-third or working Americans do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs.  These individuals are walking a financial tightrope - they are barely able to get by, with no ability to save for college, a home or for retirement.  With your help, United Way is working to cut in half the number of lower-income families who are financially unstable.  In Garland County, United Way is addressing the following:
 
Basic needs of individuals and families are met
    Armed Forces emergency services - Caddo Area Chapter, American Red Cross
    Single family disaster response - Caddo Area Chapter, American Red Cross
    Noon lunch program - Jackson House
    Red Shield Soup kitchen - Salvation Army
    Food subsidy program - Project HOPE Food Bank
